Mission Statement
This website provides clear and convincing evidence of the urgent need for palliative care, as well as the tremendous burden that has existed for millions of patients as a result of there being essentially no palliative care competency amongst health care workers.
There are tens of millions of people throughout the world, at any given time, who are living with a life-limiting disease that could benefit enormously from palliative care. Besides cancer, these are people with progressive heart, kidney, lung, liver, and neurological disease, all of which have a similar morbidity and mortality. The current health care system essentially only recognizes cancer as a life-limiting disease. The overall design of healthcare in the United States and the rest of the world is essentially only curative and heroic in nature, which results in inappropriate care and mistreatment (malpractice) upon patients with life-limiting diseases. This design also adds substantial extra cost to healthcare in the range of hundreds of billions of dollars a year.
Note: You will notice that there are numerous statements in this website that were made in recent published articles by medical experts from throughout the USA. These are physicians and others who have been practicing and studying medicine for decades. Their work provides what is referred to as "evidence-based medicine." It is evidence-based medicine that becomes adopted into bedside care, since it shows clear and convincing evidence of being the safest and most effective method (and more cost effective). From reading the provided published article statements, you will clearly see that there is overwhelming proof that there is "clear and convincing evidence" that palliative care certification is needed--ASAP!
